Regional Operations Manager (Wellington)

Maxion Civil is looking for an experienced Regional Operations Manager to join our team, based in Wellington and responsible for managing civil construction projects across the Wellington and Palmerston North Regions.

This is a hands-on project management role requiring strong leadership, commercial awareness, stakeholder management, and the ability to deliver projects safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.

Regular travel to project sites across the Wellington and Palmerston North will be required, with occasional travel to other company worksites where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead civil construction projects from planning through to successful completion
• Oversee project programmes, budgets, commercial performance, resources and subcontractors
• Manage progress claims, variations, RFIs, contractual obligations and key project documentation
• Lead and support Project Managers, Site Managers, Supervisors and site teams
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, councils, suppliers and key stakeholders
• Ensure projects achieve required safety, quality, environmental, programme and financial outcomes
• Oversee day-to-day branch operations, including labour, plant, equipment and resource allocation
• Coordinate regional workloads and ensure resources are effectively deployed across projects
• Monitor branch and project performance, risks, productivity and operational costs
• Support team development and workforce planning within the branch
• Drive local business development, tender opportunities and client relationships
• Identify operational improvements and support the continued growth of the branch and wider business
• Work closely with senior management and Head Office on strategy, reporting and operational priorities

About You

We are looking for someone who has

Proven experience managing civil construction or infrastructure projects

Strong knowledge of project planning, cost control and contract administration

Experience managing subcontractors and site teams

Good understanding of NZ construction contracts, preferably including NZS 3910

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Sound understanding of health & safety, quality and environmental requirements

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently

A practical, proactive and results-focused approach

A full New Zealand driver's licence

Fluency in Mandarin would be preferred

Experience in civil infrastructure, drainage, water, wastewater, roading, concrete or related civil works would be advantageous.

Location & Travel

This position is based in Wellington and will primarily be responsible for projects throughout the Wellington and Palmerston North Regions.

The successful applicant must be comfortable with regular travel between project sites as part of the role. From time to time, travel to other Maxion Civil projects or worksites may also be required depending on operational needs.
