About the Role

An exciting opportunity has opened for an ESOL Tutor to join our School of English on a 12-month fixed-term basis.

Reporting to the English Programme Leader, you will deliver engaging, learner-centred English language teaching and contribute to assessment, moderation, student support, and academic quality activities.

Key responsibilities include

• Planning and delivering effective ESOL lessons in accordance with approved programme requirements.
• Creating an inclusive, engaging, and culturally responsive learning environment.
• Assessing learner progress and providing timely, constructive feedback.
• Participating in internal and external moderation processes.
• Maintaining accurate attendance, assessment, and learner progress records.
• Identifying learners who may require additional academic or pastoral support.
• Working collaboratively with the Programme Leader, tutors, Student Services, and other academic staff.
• Contributing to programme reviews, professional development, meetings, and continuous improvement activities.
• Supporting compliance with NZQA requirements and the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.
• About You

The successful applicant will ideally have

• A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification.
• A recognised ESOL teaching qualification, such as CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, DELTA, or an equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience teaching English to adult learners, preferably within a New Zealand tertiary or international education environment.
• Experience with assessment and moderation processes.
• Strong lesson planning, classroom management, and learner engagement skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, student management systems, learning management systems, and digital teaching tools.
• An understanding of NZQA quality assurance requirements and the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.
• The ability to work effectively with learners and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• A collaborative, professional, and learner-focused approach.
• Applicants must hold, or be able to obtain, the legal right to work in New Zealand for the duration of the fixed-term employment.
