Job Description

About us

Take a leading role in Groundfix’s Wellington operation (must be located or locatting to Wellington), with the autonomy to deliver specialist civil projects and help shape our regional growth.

About the opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Wellington-based Project Manager who enjoys leading people, building client relationships and taking responsibility for project outcomes. This role offers an established senior PM, or an experienced PM ready for broader leadership, the opportunity to influence how our Wellington operation develops.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll manage projects from pre-construction and tender handover through to completion. You’ll lead site teams, manage commercial performance and ensure work is delivered safely, on time and to the required quality standards.

Alongside project delivery, you’ll oversee our Wellington office and workshop and develop relationships with local clients, contractors and suppliers. You’ll work closely with our Auckland-based management, operations and estimating teams, with access to their specialist expertise and support.

What you will do

Plan and deliver projects, including construction methodologies, programmes, procurement and coordination of site teams, subcontractors and suppliers.

Manage budgets, forecasts, progress claims, contracts, variations, extensions of time and project risks.

Lead project health and safety, quality, reporting and communication, maintaining clear expectations and effective working relationships.

Oversee the Wellington office and workshop, coordinating facility requirements, plant, equipment and resources with the relevant Groundfix managers.

Represent Groundfix at client meetings and site visits, strengthen local relationships and identify suitable opportunities for regional growth.Provide local knowledge and project information to support Auckland’s estimating team. Depending on your experience, you may also assist with selected tenders; estimating is not an essential requirement.

About you

You’ll bring significant project management experience in civil construction, infrastructure, earthworks, structures or geotechnical construction, with a record of delivering projects in New Zealand. We’re interested in the projects you have led and the responsibility you have held.

You will need

  • Strong project planning, commercial management and contract administration skills.
  • The ability to lead people, communicate clearly and build trust with clients and site teams.
  • The confidence to work independently, make sound decisions and coordinate with a wider national team.
  • An interest in developing client relationships and identifying opportunities for Groundfix.
  • To be based in Wellington and able to work across the region.

We would also value

Knowledge of the Wellington construction market, including local suppliers, and established connections with clients, councils, consultants or contractors.

A relevant civil engineering or construction management qualification, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience with NZS 3910 or NZS 3916 contracts.

Geotechnical or slope stabilisation experience, or estimating and tendering capability. These are advantages rather than prerequisites; you’ll have access to our specialist team’s expertise.

Why join Groundfix

Autonomy in project delivery and the opportunity to influence the growth of our Wellington operation.

Technically challenging civil and geotechnical projects, supported by an experienced national team and specialised equipment.

* A remuneration package reflecting your experience and capability, with a company vehicle, phone and laptop.
