Senior Software Developer
Job Description
Ready to engineer the real-time software platform powering the future of global EV infrastructure ?Looking for high ownership, fast-tracked progression, and code that moves real physical hardware?
We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to lead the expansion of the Kwetta Portal, the real-time operational engine behind our global EV charging ecosystem. You will design scalable APIs, build modern web interfaces, and shape the platform architecture driving the future of grid electrification.
At Sprout People, we are proud to partner with Kwetta to recruit a Senior Software Developer to scale the Kwetta Portal, the central operational heartbeat of Kwetta’s ultra-fast EV charging ecosystem.
Whether you are currently based in Auckland or looking for a lifestyle shift with full relocation support, this is a career-defining opportunity to shape an enterprise software platform at the forefront of the green energy transition.
The Opportunity
High Ownership & Rapid Growth Kwetta is scaling rapidly, and the Kwetta Portal is expanding from an early-stage monitoring application into a comprehensive, multi-tenant enterprise orchestration platform.
As a Senior Software Developer, you won’t just be a ticket-picker. You will work alongside our SLT and R&D management to extend, harden, and scale our live production platform. As Kwetta doubles headcount and expands internationally, this role offers a clear, direct pathway into a Lead Developer position and the opportunity to help build and guide a dedicated web engineering team.
About Kwetta & Mission
Kwetta builds breakthrough ultra-fast EV charging solutions that unlock hidden capacity already sitting in power-limited electrical grids. Kwetta’s technology acts as a "grid upgrade in a box," allowing commercial fleets, bus networks, and heavy transport operators to electrify in months rather than years without waiting for multi-million-dollar grid upgrades.
The platform actively powers deployments and partnerships across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK (including Fonterra, Charge Hub, and critical grid resilience projects).
The Platform & What You’ll Build
The Kwetta Portal provides charge point operators with a single-pane operational view across their entire EV charging estate.
Key platform areas you will lead and deliver include
Stage 1 (Live - Analytics & Reporting): Historical & real-time energy consumption, flex capacity tracking, and high-throughput data ingestion.
Stage 2 (In Delivery - Service & Support): Real-time site status dashboards, automated fault monitoring, and interactive device health visualisations.
Stage 3 (Future - Automation & Orchestration): Remote hardware control (Prime & Sky Hook), Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) capabilities, and automated grid management.
Who You Are & What You’ll Bring
We are looking to go wide and entice top software talent. You don't need to check every single tech stack box from day one, but full-stack engineering proficiency and strong API design experience are essential.
Full-Stack Capability: Strong expertise with TypeScript / Node.js and modern component-driven web frameworks (SvelteKit preferred, or deep React/Vue experience with an eagerness to master SvelteKit).
API & Platform Architecture: Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining enterprise REST & WebSocket APIs for platform integration, data ingestion, and third-party developer access.
Cloud & Edge Compute: Comfortable working with serverless and cloud-native architectures (Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, edge primitives, or equivalent AWS/GCP serverless environments).
Data Systems: Familiarity with time-series data handling, real-time streaming, and building intuitive visualisations for complex data sets.
Desirable (Bonus): Any background or exposure to IoT, hardware integration, SCADA, or real-time WebSockets communication with field hardware.
Why Join Kwetta? (The Full Package)
Comprehensive Relocation Support (Auckland to Napier): If moving to Hawke's Bay, we provide full relocation assistance including moving costs, housing support, and school transition guidance for your family.
Workplace Flexibility: Open to candidates in Auckland, Napier, or NZ-wide with flexible hybrid and remote working options for the right person.
Competitive Remuneration: $150,000 – $200,000 NZD per annum +ESOP (negotiable based on senior expertise).
Health & Wellbeing: Southern Cross Wellbeing One health insurance for you and your direct family, plus a $500 annual wellbeing allowance and dedicated PD/training budget.
* Unmatched Lifestyle & Culture: Work in a high-trust, low-ego, autonomous culture. Enjoy Hawke's Bay's sunny climate, beaches, zero traffic, and short 5-minute commutes if located in Napier.
