Senior Structural Engineer

We’re a New Zealand, employee-owned company with a team of 52 people across our Tauranga, Rotorua, and Te Puke offices, including civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers, planners, surveyors, and technicians.

The Role

This is a full-time position based in our Tauranga office, supporting a range of land and building development projects across the Bay of Plenty. You’ll work collaboratively with Stratum’s multidisciplinary team - including Civil and Geotech Engineers, Surveyors, and Planners- to deliver high-quality project outcomes.

As a senior member of our Structural team, you will bring technical expertise and leadership to Company projects, fostering strong relationships across disciplines to achieve successful project outcomes. You will play a key role in guiding and reviewing the work of others, sharing knowledge and providing constructive feedback to uphold technical quality and consistency, while contributing to the successful delivery of projects in line with Client expectations, internal targets and budgets in accordance with Company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and deliver structural engineering projects, including design, analysis, inspections, and reporting.

Assess feasibility of building proposals and provide technical advice.

Prepare proposals, reports, and contract documentation; manage tendering and contract administration.

Provide construction support including site supervision and certification.

Maintain client and stakeholder relationships.

Support business development and contribute to team capability, innovation, and best practice.

What We’re Looking For

Has detailed knowledge and experience in current structural design, documentation, and general drafting practices, including currency in software design packages.

Sound knowledge of the requirements of national legislation, standards and local regulations including the New Zealand Building Code, NZ Standards publications, NZ Engineering Technical groups publications.

Has sound experience and is comfortable engaging directly with Clients, Architects, Project Consultants, Councils and Contractors / Builders to facilitate client driven project outcomes, including resolving site issues

Practical mindset with the ability to balance technical design requirements with cost-effective, buildable solutions.

Engineering degree (NZ degree, or Washington Accord recognised).

At least 8 years plus experience in NZ

Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)

Ability to work collaboratively across teams and provide oversight, guidance and feedback to support high-quality outcomes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of English proficiency.
