**Context Statement**

The Essington School was established in 1989 and offers high quality childcare, preschool, early childhood,

junior and senior school programs. The school is parent-led, non-denominational and co-educational with a

**Position Objective**

The Strategic Policy and Compliance Officer is responsible for the development, review, implementation

and ongoing maintenance of organisational policies, procedures and governance documentation. The role

ensures that all policy frameworks are clear and aligned with The Essington School Strategic Plan, relevant

legislation, regulatory requirements and recognised best practice.

Working collaboratively with Executive, Board and Leadership team, the Strategic Policy and Compliance

Officer translates obligations and operational requirements into practical, accessible and effective policy

frameworks that support effective decision-making, compliance and organisational compliance.

**Position activities**

  • Provide high-level governance, administrative and co-ordination support to the CEO and Board
  • Draft, review and maintain organisational policies, procedures and governance documents
  • Conduct legislative and policy research to inform development and review processes
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess implications for the school
  • Establish and manage a structured policy review and version control schedule
  • Develop supporting procedures, guidelines, templates and implementation tools
  • Undertake benchmarking against comparable independent schools and sector standards
  • Manage policy related projects from development through to implementation
  • Prepare reports, briefing papers and Board documentation
  • Maintain effective document management, filing and record systems
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Officer

**Selection Criteria**

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, governance and technical writing
  • Strong understanding of governance, compliance and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to interpret legislation and translate complex requirements into practical

documentation

  • Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities
  • Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and document management systems
  • High level organisation skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated initiative and accountability in managing projects and resolving issues
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels of the school

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, governance, law, public administration or a related discipline
  • Experience within the education sector or not for profit sector
  • Experience supporting Board governance processes

**Appointment Conditions**

The employee must have the following

  • Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) ‘Ochre Card’ - employment conditional upon

compliance with the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007 (NT)

  • National Police Clearance, maintained for the duration of employment

This job description is intended as a framework for performance review conducted by the CEO/Principal who

reserves the right to amend roles, responsibilities, and requirements as necessary to meet the operational

needs of the school.

Your performance and remuneration package will be reviewed at three months and again at six months

following commencement. These reviews may or may not result in a salary adjustment, at the discretion of

the Principal.

Superannuation Guarantee contributions at the current rate of 12% will be paid by the school in addition to

salary.

The Essington School offers employment benefits, including reduced tuition fees for family members and

increased stand-down periods.
