System Administrator

About the role

Make a difference in your community as a Systems Administrator at Hutt City Council. This is a permanent, full-time role, working 40 hours per week.

Our Information Services team plays an important role in keeping Council's technology running smoothly, securely and reliably, enabling our people to deliver services to the Lower Hutt Te Awakairangi community.

As a Systems Administrator, you'll

Provide Level 2 technical support, resolving complex issues escalated from the Service Desk.

Administer and maintain Council's IT systems, including Windows, Microsoft 365, Exchange, Intune and SQL databases.

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, infrastructure and system issues.

Support software deployment, patching, system updates and device management.

Undertake system monitoring, daily checks and assist with maintaining security and system performance.

Support IT projects, system improvements and the implementation of new technologies.

Maintain technical documentation and share knowledge with the wider Information Services team.

About you

We're looking for a practical, customer-focused IT professional who enjoys troubleshooting, finding solutions and working collaboratively with others.

What you'll bring to the role

Strong technical knowledge of Windows operating systems, workstation support and troubleshooting.

Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online.

Experience with Microsoft Intune, including device management and software deployment.

Knowledge of Microsoft Defender and IT security practices.

A good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS and Wi-Fi.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage technical issues through to resolution.

Good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly.

A willingness to learn, share knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement.

Relevant IT qualifications or industry certifications would be an advantage.

You'll join a supportive team where your technical skills will help maintain reliable IT services, support Council staff and contribute to ongoing improvements across our technology environment.
