* Salary: The gross salary scale applicable to the post of Technical Officer is currently €46,148 - €77,007 on a full-time basis (rates effective at 01/06/2026). A pro rata salary will apply if an appointment is less than 12 months in duration.

South East Technological University (SETU) is establishing a panel for the position of Technical Officer Veterinary Medicine to meet current and future technical officer staffing requirements that may arise in the department of Veterinary Medicine.

The overall objective of this post is to provide technical support to academic staff and undergraduate Veterinary Medicine students across practical teaching activities, including animal handling, clinical skills, anatomy and pathology, at SETU Waterford campuses and Teagasc Kildalton College.

Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining teaching facilities and equipment, supporting practical classes and assessments, coordinating suitable teaching animals, and preparing cadavers and anatomical specimens for teaching and research. The postholder will ensure compliance with relevant health and safety, animal welfare, biosecurity and legislative requirements, and contribute to the effective operation and development of the Veterinary Medicine programme. The appointee must be flexible, demonstrate initiative and organisational skills, and adapt to changing technical and teaching requirements across multiple sites.

The panel will remain in place for two years from the date of establishment, unless exhausted before the end of that period. It will be used to fill approved vacancies that may arise during this time. Vacancies may arise at short notice and may be subject to specific commencement dates determined by operational requirements. Appointments made from the panel may vary in nature, contractual terms and duration. Depending on operational requirements and staff request approvals, appointments may be permanent, fixed-term, specified-purpose or temporary, and may be offered on a whole-time or part-time basis.
