Questions about care home visa sponsorship
- Can a UK care home still sponsor a care worker from abroad?
- No. Since 22 July 2025 care worker and senior care worker jobs (occupation codes 6135 and 6136) are open only to people extending, updating or switching their visa inside the UK, not to new applicants from abroad. If you switch from another visa, you must have worked legally for your sponsor for at least 3 months. Nurses and other eligible health roles can still apply from abroad.
- How do I check that a care home holds a sponsor licence?
- Search its name in our UK sponsor licence checker, which reads the Home Office register of licensed sponsors. The register lists organisations by their legal name, so try the company's registered name if its trading name finds nothing.
- Does the care home need to be registered with the CQC?
- For care worker and senior care worker jobs in England, yes: the employer must be registered with the Care Quality Commission.
- How do you know which sponsors provide care?
- The register does not record industry. We match each licensed sponsor to Companies House and use its activity (SIC) codes: residential care (87100–87900) for care homes and 88100 for home-care providers.
- Is ApplyWave an employer or a recruitment agency?
