**Who We Are**
Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.
The Dean’s Office in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) provides strategic and operational leadership supporting academic planning, student experience, and faculty-wide initiatives. The team leads work in student success, advising, recruitment, and retention, including coordination of first-year transition programming and services across campuses, particularly at Surrey. Serving students, departments, and faculty leadership, the team advances SFU priorities by strengthening student outcomes and enabling inclusive, innovative programs. The culture is collaborative, adaptive, and solutions-oriented, with a strong focus on partnership, continuous improvement, and student-centered service.
**About the Role**
The Coordinator, Student Success plays a key role in advancing student transition, retention, and overall student experience within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with a primary focus on Surrey-based first-year programming. This position connects advising, programming, and recruitment to deliver coordinated, high impact supports for undergraduate students. Working collaboratively across campuses, the role contributes to strengthening advising capacity, aligning student success initiatives, and enhancing the consistency of the student experience across FASS. Upcoming priorities include the continued development and expansion of cohort-based first-year programming (e.g., FASS One-Surrey), integration of academic and career exploration supports, and contributions to faculty-wide retention and student success strategies. This is an opportunity to shape emerging programming, build strong campus partnerships, and have a direct impact on student outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, student-centered professional with strong advising experience and a demonstrated ability to design and deliver impactful student success programming. They bring excellent judgment, communication, and organizational skills, and are comfortable navigating complex academic environments. A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to build relationships across departments are essential. Experience supporting first-year students, working across multiple stakeholders, and balancing competing priorities will support success in this role, along with a commitment to equity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
