The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) acts as a liaison between students and faculty in the implementation of disability-related accommodations and services. CAL is responsible for upholding SFU's General Policy 26 ("Accessibility for students with Disabilities") and also advocates on issues related to diversity, educational equity, and academic achievement.
**About the Role**
The Disability Access Advisor (DAA) works directly with students to determine their eligibility for disability-related accommodations, establish necessary accommodations and provide additional referrals to ensure students are appropriately supported. This role regularly liaises with instructors and other service units to ensure implementation of accommodations. This DAA's work is guided by SFU's General Policy 26 and Human Rights law and plays a critical role in ensuring students with disabilities receive fair and equitable access to their learning experience.
The ideal candidate for this position has excellent knowledge of disability assessment and legislation and an understanding of how to assess relevant documentation in the post-secondary context. They have demonstrated excellence in communicating decisions through a student-centered lens and working collaboratively with stakeholders to establish and implement accommodations. Additionally, the ideal candidate possesses outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively navigate conflict.
