Asset Engineering is looking for a practical, hands-on General Engineer to join our growing Waikato team.

This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys working across different types of engineering rather than doing the same thing every day.

Our work ranges from general engineering, fabrication and repairs through to commercial metalwork projects and site installations. You’ll work both in our Hamilton workshop and out on site, supporting the wider team across a broad range of jobs.

About the Role

Depending on the work underway, your role may include

• General engineering and fabrication
• MIG, TIG and stick welding
• Repairs and modifications to machinery, plant and equipment
• Fault finding and general maintenance work
• Fabrication of steel, stainless steel and aluminium
• Assisting our construction teams with the installation and fitting of fabricated metalwork components on commercial construction sites
• Measuring, modifying and problem-solving on site
• Working from drawings, sketches and site measurements
• Supporting our workshop and project teams across a variety of engineering work
• The role will suit someone who is adaptable, practical and comfortable turning their hand to different types of engineering work.

About You

We’re looking for someone with solid practical engineering ability.

Ideally you’ll have

Previous engineering, fabrication, fitting or maintenance experience

Strong MIG and stick welding skills

TIG welding experience would be an advantage

Good general fabrication skills

Strong mechanical aptitude

The ability to problem-solve and work independently

Experience using workshop machinery and general engineering equipment

The ability to read drawings and work accurately from measurements

Experience working on construction or industrial sites would be beneficial

A good attitude and willingness to get involved wherever required

A full NZ driver licence

Mechanical or maintenance experience would be an advantage, but it’s not essential. We’re more interested in finding someone with strong practical skills, a good work ethic and the ability to adapt to different work.
