Small Works Delivery Lead - Engineering & Metalwork

About the role

Asset Engineering is looking for an experienced engineering all-rounder to take ownership of small works across the Bay of Plenty. This is a hands-on position for someone who can look at a small job, work out the solution, price it, organise it and get it completed quickly. The person in this role needs to be comfortable moving between the office, workshop and site. One day you may be measuring and pricing a small handrail; the next you may fabricate or install it yourself; and on another job you may coordinate drawings, materials and two installers. The key is taking ownership and keeping small work moving without it getting caught up in the systems designed for larger projects.

Key responsibilities

Take initial enquiries for small engineering and metalwork jobs and quickly establish what is actually required

Visit site, measure work, talk directly with the client or builder and develop a practical solution

Price and quote smaller jobs using your own practical knowledge, supplier pricing and support from our estimating/QS team when required

Prepare clear sketches, measurements and scope information so work can move straight into fabrication or be passed to drafting when a formal drawing is needed

Order or coordinate materials and outside services for small works

Fabricate, modify and install work yourself where that is the quickest and most practical way to deliver it

Bring in workshop or installation labour when a job needs more than one person and coordinate this with our scheduling team

Work alongside our Project Managers where small works interface with larger live projects

Coordinate site access, inductions, equipment and installation requirements

Keep clients informed, provide quick answers and close out jobs rather than letting minor issues drag on

About you

Strong hands-on background in fabrication, installation, maintenance engineering, architectural metalwork or general engineering

Experience pricing or estimating smaller engineering jobs, even if this has not been your formal job title

Ability to site measure accurately and turn a rough requirement into a workable fabrication/install solution

Confidence reading drawings and producing clear sketches and dimensions for others

Good knowledge of aluminium, stainless steel and mild steel and common fabrication/fixing methods

Ability to fabricate and install work yourself when required

Good judgement around when to solve something personally and when to involve drafting, engineering, a Project Manager or additional labour

Strong communication and a personable approach with customers and builders

A sense of urgency and the ability to keep several small jobs moving at once

Full NZ Driver Licence
