Metalwork Draftsperson / Detailer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Metalwork Draftsperson / Detailer to join our Bay of Plenty design team. This role suits someone who understands that good shop drawings need to work in the workshop and on site, not just look correct on screen. You will work across commercial architectural metalwork packages including handrails, balustrades, aluminium screens and louvres, canopies, stairs, gates, feature steelwork and bespoke items. You will be involved from site measure and design coordination through to shop drawing approval, manufacture and installation. Practical engineering knowledge is important. If you have spent time fabricating, installing or working closely with trades and can turn construction information into clear, buildable details, that is exactly the type of background we value.

Key responsibilities

Produce detailed shop drawings for manufacture and site installation.

Carry out site measures, site inspections and dimensional checks where required.

Model and detail architectural metalwork packages from architectural and structural information.

Develop practical fabrication and installation details, including fixings and interfaces with other trades.

Prepare material take-offs and schedules where required.

Review architectural, structural and consultant drawings and identify missing or conflicting information.

Work closely with Project Managers, workshop staff and installers throughout the project.

Raise design queries and provide clear information for RFIs where required.

Incorporate client/consultant comments and manage drawing revisions accurately.

Coordinate with builders, architects, engineers and suppliers when required.

About you

Minimum 3 years experience producing detailed shop drawings.

Strong experience detailing architectural metalwork or closely related engineering work.

Practical fabrication and/or installation knowledge within the engineering industry.

Good understanding of aluminium, stainless steel and mild-steel fabrication methods.

Ability to understand how components are assembled, finished, transported and installed.

Strong understanding of construction drawings, dimensions, levels and interfaces.

Ability to produce accurate, buildable drawings with minimal supervision.

Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability.

Good communication and organisational skills.

Ability to manage several drawing packages and deadlines at the same time.
