Job Description

Join a growing team at Holmes and help deliver complex water and infrastructure projects that make a real difference to communities across New Zealand. We are looking for experienced Pipeline, Hydraulics and/or Mechanical Engineers who enjoy solving challenging technical problems, working closely with clients, and taking ownership of project outcomes. We are open to candidates from Intermediate level through to Project Director or Technical Director and the roles could be based in any of our NZ offices.

At Holmes, you will be part of a highly respected engineering consultancy with a strong reputation for technical excellence, innovation and quality. You will work alongside talented engineers and technical leaders on interesting and technically demanding projects, contributing from early concept and proposal stages through to design delivery and project completion.

What you'll do

Lead or contribute to the delivery of pipeline, hydraulics and mechanical engineering projects from proposal through to construction

Provide technical input across a range of water and infrastructure projects, depending on your level of experience

Develop and deliver practical, robust design solutions for pump stations, wastewater treatment plants and municipal infrastructure

Work closely with clients, contractors and internal teams to support successful project outcomes

Contribute to project planning, technical delivery, quality and commercial performance

Build and maintain strong client relationships, supporting repeat work and new opportunities

Mentor and support developing engineers, sharing knowledge and building capability across the team

Contribute to business development and help strengthen Holmes' presence in the New Zealand water market

What you'll bring

You will bring strong pipeline, hydraulics and/or mechanical engineering experience across a range of project types and design elements. We are particularly interested in people with experience in pumps, pipes, valves and associated mechanical systems, ideally within projects such as pump stations, wastewater treatment plants and other municipal infrastructure.

You will be a technically capable and commercially aware engineer with proven experience contributing to or leading projects, building trusted client relationships, and working confidently across both technical delivery and stakeholder engagement. Strong communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to mentor or lead other engineers will be important in this role.
