Job Description

* + Provide academic expertise and leadership within the sub-discipline of sport performance science, while contributing to high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

+ This role will require a blend of knowledge and proficiency in sport performance analysis, exercise physiology, data science and athlete conditioning.

+ Actively contribute to innovative, collaborative research and supervision related to sport performance science.

+ Permanent, full-time role (1.0 FTE), working across AUT’s North and South Campuses, and AUT Millennium.

The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We are seeking an outstanding individual to join our school. You could be an emerging academic with excellent industry experience and strong potential, or an established academic with a proven record of research, teaching and academic citizenship.

We welcome applications for a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor. The successful applicant will contribute to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the Bachelor of Sport, Exercise and Health, Master of Sport, Exercise and Health, and Master of Human Performance Leadership.

We are particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to our teaching and research in:

+ Sport Performance Analysis

+ Sport-related Data Science

+ Sport and Exercise Physiology

+ Athletic Conditioning

We are also interested in applicants who have demonstrated leadership capability and show willingness to take up future substantial leadership roles as opportunities arise. Senior academics are also expected to provide mentorship to colleagues in both research and teaching.

We embrace practice-led, research-informed approaches to teaching for transformative student experiences that uplift communities. Your contributions to programme and course development will support our continuous-improvement focus. You will teach across programmes as assigned by the Head of Department and be comfortable using digital resources to enhance learning. You will publish actively in your specialised field/s. Research at AUTis central to our mission, driving innovation, informing teaching and creating real-world impact for communities, industry and society. The successful candidate will be expected to seek and attract external research funding, engage with government, industry, professional bodies and the community, and contribute to school/faculty activities.

Experience contributing to Indigenous, equity or inclusion-focused initiatives is highly valued.

The selection criteria sought are

(for Career-path Lecturers/Senior Lecturers)

1. Qualification:

+ A PhD relevant to sport and exercise science, or sport performance science (or a related field)

1. Research:

+ An early career academic will have the basis of a solid research pipeline and a primary-authored research paper available.

+ More experienced candidates will already have an established research programme and a proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

+ Evidence of proactively pursuing external research income is desirable. (Lecturers)

+ Evidence of securing or contributing to external research income is desirable. (Senior Lecturers)

1. Teaching:

+ An early career academic will ideally have at least some previous teaching experience.

+ More experienced candidates will have previous lecturing experience, evidence of curriculum development and experience supervising Bachelors, Masters and/or PhD students.

1. Qualification:

+ A PhD relevant to sport and exercise science, or sport performance science (or a related field)

1. Research and Scholarship:

+ Extensive experience leading and driving sport performance science research, with a strong publication record in top-tier journals.

+ Established international research networks and demonstrated potential or experience securing external research funding.

+ Proven ability to build and sustain collaborative research partnerships across academia and industry.

+ Editorial board membership and/or experience as an editor, guest editor or conference track chair.

1. Teaching and Learning:

+ Substantial undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience, including course and assessment design, delivery, and coordination

+ Ability to engage with students in innovative and engaging ways

+ Ability to contribute to curriculum innovation and the development of high-quality course content

+ Ability to design and deliver innovative assessments

+ Proven ability to attract and supervise postgraduate research students

1. Citizenship and Service:

+ Experience supporting Indigenous, equity or inclusion-focused initiatives, with the capability to support the AUT’s Te Aronui Framework.

+ Demonstrated academic leadership and service – either internally or externally.

+ Experience engaging internationally with industry, government and community stakeholders to translate and apply research.

Proven ability to communicate research to non-academic audiences, including through media engagement.
