Machine Operator
Job Description
Role Overview
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Machine Operator to join our steel fabrication workshop. The successful candidate will operate steel processing machinery to prepare materials for fabrication and welding, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and compliance with production and safety standards.
The role will involve operating equipment such as CNC drilling and cutting machines, bandsaws and other steel processing machinery.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate steel processing machinery in accordance with production requirements.
Operate CNC drilling lines, saws, cutting equipment and other workshop machinery as trained and authorised.
Read cutting lists, production schedules and basic fabrication drawings.
Load, position and process steel sections, plates and components safely.
Check finished materials for dimensional accuracy and quality.
Carry out routine machine inspections, cleaning and basic operator maintenance.
Monitor machine performance and report breakdowns or faults.
Ensure efficient material usage and minimise waste.
Work with fabrication and production teams to achieve daily targets.
Follow safe operating procedures and maintain a tidy working environment.
Skills & Experience Required
Previous experience operating machinery within steel fabrication, engineering or manufacturing desirable.
Experience with CNC drilling, sawing or steel cutting machinery advantageous.
Ability to read basic drawings, cutting lists and measurements.
Good mechanical awareness and attention to detail.
Ability to work safely with heavy steel materials and lifting equipment.
Forklift or overhead crane training advantageous.
Willingness to learn additional machines and production processes.
Pay: £14.00-£17.00 per hour
