Uniform Consultant
Job Description
This is an incredible opportunity to be a part of the most iconic uniform roll out in over a decade. After 12 years, Air New Zealand has decided it's time to roll out a new uniform. Designed by Emilia Wickstead in collaboration with artist Te Rangitu Netana, this project is underway and being delivered to around 6,000 staff.
Fred has partnered with Deane Apparel, one of New Zealand's leading uniform specialists, to find the Uniform Consultants who'll walk the Air New Zealand staff through their decisions, alterations and fitting appointments, to ensure a seamless and well supported experience.
We're hiring for two Auckland boutiques, at Air NZ's Gas Turbines site and the Domestic Terminal. Our Auckland boutiques run the longest of the rollout, from 23 November 2026 to 26 February 2027, however training will commence in Auckland from the 16th of November.
What you'll do
Guide Air NZ staff through their new uniform in one-on-one fitting consultations
Share the story behind the collection and explain how each garment is meant to fit and function
Take and record accurate alteration measurements to approved standards
Help each person make confident choices within their uniform allocation and style guidelines
Keep the boutique, fitting rooms and garments looking sharp
Working hours of between 7.15am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday
About you
A background in fashion, retail, tailoring, alterations or garment production
A solid understanding of how garments should fit, and the confidence to measure accurately
The way you work with people
You make people feel at ease. Fittings can feel personal. You put people of every shape, size, age and background at ease, and you're respectful and sensitive when measuring and talking about fit.
You're a natural educator. You can explain how a garment is meant to fit and why, in a way that's clear and never condescending.
You balance empathy with backbone. When someone wants something outside the style guidelines or their allocation, you listen, understand where they're coming from, and guide them to a great outcome while holding the line.
You read the room. Some people want to chat, others want to be in and out. You adjust your style to suit, and you can tell when someone's uncomfortable before they say it.
You stay calm when it's busy. With back-to-back appointments, you keep your energy, warmth and accuracy up from the first fitting of the day to the last.
You solve problems. If something doesn't fit or a size isn't available, you focus on the fix, not the frustration.
You're a team player. You'll work alongside the Air New Zealand team, the Boutique Manager and other consultants, so you share the load, communicate clearly and pitch in wherever it's needed.
You're discreet. You'll see the new uniform before anyone else and handle people's measurements and personal details. You keep it all confidential, online and off.
* You set the standard. You take pride in your presentation and conduct, knowing you're representing two premium brands.
