Field Service Technician or Trainee Technician

Jenkins Freshpac Systems is a long-established, family-owned New Zealand business supplying, installing and servicing automated post-harvest machinery and packaging solutions across New Zealand and Australia.

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on, technically minded person to join our Tauranga service team, supporting customers throughout the Bay of Plenty and wider Upper North Island.

This is a varied, practical role working with specialised labelling, packhouse, packaging, strapping and automation equipment. You’ll be involved in servicing, preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs, installations, equipment rebuilds and customer training.

You don’t need to have worked on this type of equipment before. We’re open to people with a range of mechanical backgrounds, including qualified tradespeople, experienced technicians and those looking to develop their skills through on-the-job training.

You might be a maintenance engineer, mechanic, tradesperson or someone with hands-on technical experience looking for a new challenge. If you enjoy solving problems, working with machinery and learning how things work, we’d like to hear from you.

In this role, you will:

Service, maintain and repair mechanical and automated equipment.

Carry out scheduled, preventative, in-season and post-harvest servicing.

Install and commission new and rebuilt equipment.

Diagnose faults and provide practical solutions.

Train customers and provide technical support.

Complete service documentation and job records accurately.

Assist with equipment trials, rebuilds and technical projects.

Build strong customer relationships.

Maintain high standards of safety and workmanship.

Travel throughout the Upper North Island and occasionally further afield.

This is a full-time permanent role. Hours depend upon business needs.

General Hours

Out of season (Aug to Jan) - Hours are generally Mon-Fri Day shift

Peak Season (Late Jan – Early Aug) – Hours can involve weekends and late shifts and with overtime.

What we are looking for

We’re interested in people who are practical, reliable and keen to learn. You don’t need to tick every box to apply.

You’ll ideally bring some of the following:

A background in maintenance, mechanical engineering, automotive or a related technical trade.

Experience with machinery, maintenance, repairs or fault finding.

A practical, hands-on approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.

Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.

The ability to work independently while contributing to a supportive team.

A commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

A current full Class 1 driver licence.

Flexibility to travel and support seasonal customer requirements.

Experience with packhouse machinery, labelling systems, automation, packaging or strapping equipment would be useful, as would familiarity with the Simpro Field Service Management app.

An Electrical Service Technician (EST) ticket would be an advantage, but it’s not essential. Support may be available for the right person to obtain this qualification.

Trainees and people looking to broaden their technical experience are encouraged to apply. If you have a solid foundation in mechanical or electrical work and the right attitude, we’re open to helping you develop the specialist skills needed for this role.
